In this section youll find Technical information or pointers on Low and Medium Frequency Antennae, Receiver, and transmitter projects. And how and where they have been deployed.

Previous LF experimental license was granted in 2003, callsign WD2XDW and operated near Kincaid park area Anchorage Alaska, then Bartlesville Oklahoma 2003/2006.

Previous Canadian HF and MF propagation experiments from 1982-1990 used the callsign VOO263 and VOO 264, and from 1977-2004 using the UK Marine callsign 2 AZT
WE2XPQ is licensed by the FCC under part 5 Experimental license both for 137 and 505/510 kHz from Wasilla Alaska and has a 5 year grant period.

    Mongolia JT1FCR

  • Laurence KL1X and co worker working out of Ullan Baator - Operated on HF and 6 meters over a few year period - Im the one with the knees!
  • JT1FCR Im outside a Ger, a hair lined inviting tent - Ullan Baator (UB) 1999
  • Operations @ JT1FCR - We lived in a disused army barracks -some what primitive with no running water and open pit latrines
  • Note - 800Kb File - Outside my radio room window conscipt Mongolian soldiers dug trenches and sang!
  • We changed bases in UB 2000 and here Im next to the 6m and HF antennae - pretty successful - I was doing voluntary work in some remoter parts of Mongolia stretching from the Gobi in the south to the Russian border in the North

    Brunei 2000

  • In 2000 I set up the communications facilities in Brunei for Raleigh International - read about our jungle trainin!
  • An interesting way to drop a radio station into a jungle
  • Brunei special forces conducted our training
  • Knowing which vine is OK to drink from and making man/animal traps were part of the course

    Antarctica/Arctic

  • I was in Antarctica from 1978-1983 on two tours of duty; the 1st was for a continuous 33 months. Here I set up the 10m beacon VP8ADE on 28.285Mhz and operated as VP8SB -
  • This picture taken by explorer Geoff Somers MBE, and is of us on Sea Ice in the late Antarctic winter of 1980 just off Adelaide Island - The 9 dog team are the Picts and we'd been out on the Sea and Land Ice for about ten days - We are actually very hot pushing the sledge most of the time and Im wearing pyjamas!
  • Read about the 1979-1982 Transglobe expedition - the first circumnavigation of the globe via both Poles - I was the second radio op supporting the late Lady Virginia Fiennes
  • I was stationed in a small hut near the runway just outside CFS Alert and proud to be one of the "frozen chosen" - I was also at Tanquary Fjord (alone apart from a pack of wolves!)as part of the Transglobe expedition with Sir Ranulph Fiennes providing an HF back up to the Alert radio base - heres some background. When I had time I operated G4DMA/VE8 and also from Greenland /OX

    Oman 1999

  • In 1999 with Raleigh we worked with GOSYCA in Oman and conducted successful environmental, adventure and community projects throughout Oman - here work to repair a waterway channel or Falaj in a remote village is being done by hand - Communications between the project sites and Fieldbase near the capital was by HF on 5, 7 and 9 Mhz -

    Singapore 2007

    Borneo 9M6 LF operations

  • Operations from Sabah Borneo in a stormy October 2006
  • L400b in Acacia tree, Karumbunai, Borneo -
